Put This In Your ROI Pipe And Smoke Itby Eric BrownSometimes, when you are so very passionate about something, it is challenging to understand why others around don't "See It." Perhaps they just think you will go away, grow weary or just loose interest. But then when you don't wear down, the next best thing is for the pundits to fire a zillion questions to discredit or confuse the issue. That's what seems to happen frequently with non-believers of Social Media Marketing, and it is so very frustrating.... 61 Pre-SEO Campaign Questions You Need To Answer Toby Stoney deGeyterThis post is a list of all the questions that have been asked in the 8-Part Big Bad List of SEO Questions. Here you will find the full list of questions with links to each of them individually. The Big, Bad List of Pre-SEO Questions You Need to Answer, Part VIIby Stoney deGeyterIn this installment we move into the realm of pricing and asking questions related to costs versus return on investment. When outsourcing your SEO to a firm or consultant it becomes a bit more difficult to control costs than it does when you hire-in house. But that's not to suggest that cost cannot be controlled and you cannot get a return on investment. It's all a matter of knowing how to manage the campaign, expectations and the budget that goes along with it. The Big, Bad List of Pre-SEO Questions You Need to Answer, Part VIIIby Stoney deGeyterIn this final installment our questions will be centered on control and expected involvement of the business owner. The site owner, to some degree, will likely have to give up some control of their site if they want the SEO firm to implement anything themselves. At the same time, there is a reasonable expectation that the SEO cannot have 100% control over the site in order to ensure the client approves of the specific changes that the SEO is asking to be made. Somewhere in here is a balancing act from the business owner having to do everything themselves and handing over all decisions to the SEO completely. Cultivating Local Needs For Business Profitby Miriam EllisObservation is the key skill you need to succeed with a local-focused business, and with the promotional tools the web provides, there has never been a better time to begin cultivating local needs for the benefit of your community and your business.... Does Search Marketing Belong in Marketing or Sales?by Mike MoranA client asked me this very question recently and it got me to thinking about what's wrong with the way a lot of us think about search marketing. The major concept behind successful search marketing (and indeed all of Internet marketing) is direct marketing. And the more you know about direct marketing, the less this question makes sense.... Return to the Top of this Page In response to... Put This In Your ROI Pipe And Smoke ItWow, I am flattered by all the positive comments on Goodwill of Greater Washington's social media strategy. We seem to have caught lightning in a bottle. What this effort has truly taught me is that anyone can be successful using social media as long as they understand that it should be integrated into an organization's overall marketing strategy, not take the place of that strategy. It's critical to engage your audience by discussing a topic that is important to them, not just to you (or your company). And finally, recognize that social media works best as a marketing tool when it is treated like a product. Eric, I appreciate you sharing our story. Brendan Hurley In response to... Put This In Your ROI Pipe And Smoke ItI absolutely love how DC Goodwill found a way to create a relationship with their customers. Migrating their fashion show online let them start talking with people on the web and it sure didn't hurt to have media coverage, either! I also think it was a smart move having Hall write the blog. Really, it's about having the person you'd want talking to a particular group of people talk to them online. The whole feel of the blog is inviting and fun, and I can see why it's the linchpin of their social media strategy. Marc Dula In response to... Does Search Marketing Belong in Marketing or Sales? We are all direct marketers now... As a long time DMer I've always seen the connection. When working with clients I always want to get them to focus on the allowable even if its for leads that go to the sales team. Once we know that magic number we can really go to town especially with PPC. If you can't prove your ROI then you are viewed as an expense and you're gonna get cut in these hard times.
